Zayn Malik throws shade at One Direction as he admits he feels relieved to finally sing about ‘sex’

He was one fifth of clean-cut boyband One Direction until he sensationally quit in 2015.

And now Zayn Malik has admitted he’s happy he’s been able to adopt a more mature sound and sing about sex since leaving the chart-topping band.

In an excerpt from his highly awaited autobiography, the 23-year-old star – who achieved a number one hit with his racy song Pillowtalk – explained he was relieved to be able to talk about the intimate subject matter in his music.

He wrote: ‘Every lyric I’ve ever written has a story behind it.

‘All the hard work that went into the creation of “Pillowtalk” was worthwhile because, as soon as it was finished, I intuitively felt I was on the right path.

He added: ‘It was a sick cut, nailing the exact sound I wanted to capture in my music.

‘I was also able to sing about a subject that I hadn’t really been able to go near while I was in One Direction: sex.’

It was first confirmed that Zayn was releasing his autobiography in September with publishing house Penguin Random House.

The book – simply titled Zayn – is set for release on 1st November and will include personal photographs and drawings from the former One Direction band member.

The Bradford singer quit the group in 2015 and released his solo debut Mind of Mine earlier this year.
The former X Factor star revealed that he hopes his highly-anticipated literary offering that will help to clarify some of the misconceptions that surround him.
