GTU team to participate in Electric Cup Competition for Factory Automation

Ahmedabad: National Level Competition for Factory Automation Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2018 will be organised in February 2018. From All over India 35 Team were selected for competition. Out of 35, 6 team were selected from Gujarat state. The teams include One team from Gujarat Technological University (GTU) and another team from GTU Affiliated Colleges – Vadodara Institute of Technology and Kalol Institute of Technology.

Team “TINKERERS” of Gujarat Technological University is going to design Automatic Transformer Winding Machine for Small Scale Factories While other two team of GTU affiliated is going to design Automatic Stirrups Making Machine Using PLC and Automatic Food Filling and Wrapping Machine. GTU is pioneer in the field of Automation related education and training. GTU has set up Automation Labs with the help of German Bosch Rexroth Company. By sending GTU team, we are committed to carry forward the automation education efforts, Prof. (Dr) Navin Sheth, Vice Chancellor of GTU said.

Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2018 is an opportunity where students may actively take part and showcase their creative skills on Manufacturing, Image Processing, IOT, Advance Process Control, Innovative Equipment for Some Cause, Qualitative and Quantitative Production etc. All 35 Team will be demonstrate their design Product and Prototype in 2nd week of Feb 2018 and they will be evaluated on basic full score of the competition is 100 points, consisting of “basic knowledge” (5 points) “system design and presentation” (90 points; bonus 5 points other Mitsubishi Electric FA components in addition to standard package are used) and “good behaviour” (5 points). GTU team will perform under guidance of Prof. Raj Hakani (Assistant Professor, Community Innovation & Co-Creation Centre).

Aim of Competition is to improve college students’ engineering application capability, arouse their interests in learning technology, build up innovation capacity and cooperation spirit, as well as improve their self-management ability and communication skills. Theme of Competition is “Innovative Solutions for Smart Manufacturing”, each team has to develop independently design and produce a complete set of devices/models by using Mitsubishi Electric factory automation products. For Competition purpose, Basic set of Mitsubishi Electric FA components (comprising of PLC, HMI and VFD or Servo Drive – Servo Motor set) will be given on returnable basis to the participating institute.
